In 2002 I graduated from Strathclyde University with a BSc in Speech and Language Pathology. I then worked for the NHS until 2007 and with Enable Ireland until 2011. Since returning to Scotland, I have been working independently as a speech and language therapist as well as undertaking further study with Ulster University.
For Enable Ireland, I was senior therapist in a specialist diagnostic team for children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and its co-occuring disorders (Developmental Language Disorder, Apraxia of Speech, Developmental Dyspraxia, Sensory Processing Disorder, dyslexia and ADHD). I was also senior SLT in a rural outreach medical team where we worked together to support for children with physical disability built into the child’s everyday routines.
For the NHS I worked as a senior therapist supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in specialist units, schools and in groups. I also worked with children who had Delayed speech and language, Developmental Language Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, Selective Mutism, Stammering and Voice Disorders as part of a peripatetic service to schools, in nurseries and in community clinics.
As a generalist therapist in the NHS I also worked with adult with voice disorders, stammering, stroke rehabilitation and progressive neuromuscular conditions.
Prior to this I did an economics degree and worked in financial services whilst also working as a volunteer counsellor with Childline Scotland and a volunteer youth worker with Barnados.
I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice. I have also undergone an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland Check and hold an up to date First Aid Certificate.
